Saturday Wrap-Up 26/12/2015

Good racing and a fair track was the order of the day on Boxing Day as the curtain came down for the final meeting at the Gold Coast for 2015. With the Magic Millions fast approaching the Group3 race for 2YO horses was very competitive and  Zelady's Night Out displayed her credentials and proved she had no difficulties running out a strong 1200M while Sundance pulled up a little worse for ware after enduring a tough run outside the Sydney visitor Slumber Party. Nikitas ran on well. Later in the day Tinto showed her class winning with the big weight and Bachman put away a good field in the Goldmarket sending home favourite backers on good terms.

NEXT WEEK

On Staurday 2 Jan 2016 we have a betting only meeting scheduled at the Gold Coast track ahead of the big week heading towards the Magic Millions carnival on 9 January.

Saturday Wrap-Up 12/12 & 19/12 2015

Saturday 12 December saw the track downgraded twice during the day however in the 1800M event I thought the 4YO mare Unassuming looked to have some upside as she is lightly raced and came to this Class3 event from her previous start maiden win.

The track was in good order for the 19 December meeting and from this meeting I am expecting Tibrogargan Miss to continue to race well. Whilst her win was slightly slower time than Kudero in winning later in the day Tibrogargan Miss carried slightly more weight than he and the pace was well and truly put on for Kudero by the grey Chinchilla speedster Bagger Chance.

NEXT WEEK

Boxing Day is shaping up to be a very good meeting at the Gold Coast. There are very interesting lead up races programmed and strong nominations have been received for this meeting which precedes the feature Magic Millions meeting on 9 January 2016 which is just two weeks away from this meeting.

Saturday Wrap-Up 21.11 / 28.11 / 05.12.2015

The November 21 & 28 meetings have thrown up very little with respect to future winners, however the 5 December meeting produced the speedy Spinnaker Run which looked very impressive in winning the Maiden over 900M in good time and had Mini Meld not had such a hard run in the Class 2 over 1100m he would have finished much closer .... therefore I am highlighting those two runners from recent meetings.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues at the Surfers Paradise track and patrons can now enjoy xxxx and associated products on course. Magic Millions is just five weeks away on 9 January 2016.

Saturday Wrap-Up 31.10 / 3.11 / 7.11 / 14.11.2015

Since the last newsletter the racing world on the Gold Coast has been a hive of activity with the 2015 Melbourne Cup carnival drawing to a close and continuing good patronage at the local race track. The interest will now focus on Western Australian racing and also importantly the upcoming Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast In January. There is a 2YO clockwise classic at Ballarat this coming Saturday for horses endeavouring to qualify for the big one in January.

RECENT GOOD PERFORMERS:

OCTOBER 31 ....   Court Martial Miss

NOVEMBER 3 ....   Mini Meld

NOVEMBER 7 ....   Exelartie

NOVEMBER 14 .... Lady Belladonna

Plonk horse Mini Meld impressed by winning his maiden by nearly six lengths and performed the quickest last 600M of the day. The Birchley trained Court Martial Miss shows promise and Exelartie loves the local track. With track upgrades during the meetings on November 7 & 14 form from these meetings might be hard to follow however Lady Belladonna may have more wins in store.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues at the Gold Coast Turf Club Surfers Paradise racecourse.

Saturday 29th was the betting only meeting and Sunday 30th  saw a busy little seven event local card. Unfortunately most regular racegoers took the day off owing to the Gold Coast Show which took advantage of most of the parking for their entertainment requirements.

Impressive winners on the day : Winning Accord & Special Jay.

Now that the Show people have done their thing we can now concentrate on the fantastic spring racing in Sydney and Melbourne and look further forward to the Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast Turf club in January.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues at the Surfers Paradise racecourse.

Saturday Wrap-Up 15.08.2015 & 22.08.2015

Saturday Wrap-Up 08.08.2015

Very much a lack lustre meeting at the Gold Coast on Saturday August 8 , so we will not dwell on the day too much and look forward to the spring racing which is fast approaching.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues at the Surfers Paradise racecourse and don't forget the City of Gold Coast Cup August 22, 2015.

Saturday Wrap-Up 01.08.2015

The horses' birthday saw many well backed contenders make it to the winning enclosure notwithstanding competitive racing and dry track conditions.

In race three the Maiden Plate over 1800M High Adversity put her nose in front on the line and rewarded her backers significantly. In race four the Class 2 over 1400M the winner Boy Scout looks to have a future after shouldering 59kg and  he is now the winner of three races from six starts. He also was well supported shortening in from a lucrative $15.00 to $11.00 starting price. Race seven saw heavy backing for Superduty and the class drop saw him lead and win pretty easily.  Burleigh Bullet was most impressive racing away with the Class 4 , 1200M handicap.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues at the Surfers Paradise racetrack.

Saturday Wrap-Up 18.07.2015

Although the unseasonal cold weather kept a few patrons indoors,Saturday July 18 produced another brisk local betting meeting at the Gold Coast Turf Club. There was betting spread accross all the races and most winners were supported in the markets. Those favourites which went to the line well and appeared slightly unlucky were Starocity in the Colts,Geldings& Entires class (1) and Shady Daisy in the Fillies and Mares Class(1). Real Sting and Rainbow Magic looked to have every chance when beaten in their respective races. Basic Strategy performed well with blinkers and ran his rivals ragged in the 1400 M class (2), he was very well supported.

NEXT WEEK

159 nominations have been received for the meeting on July 25, which is a very promising signal. Horses' birthday the following Saturday.

Saturday 08.08.2015 is the Jamie Myer fight night promotion which commences after the races at approximately 6.00 pm. Tickets available at www.ticketmaster.com.au.

Saturday Wrap-Up 11.07.2015

On Saturday July 11 the southern meetings provided their usual winter tracks however the Gold Coast produced an even racing surface. In Brisbane, after benefiting from nice weather early in the day a downpour during the meeting reduced the Doomben track to soft conditions.

Locally betting was centred on the Gold Coast meeting and there was a high degree of betting interest throughout the day.

Those horses which ran on well without winning included Xylophone (place) , Saint Hugo (place) , Godzone Girl (place) and Real Sting (place). Doughty (place) and American Spirit (winner) also raced very well. Point (winner) must be respected for the future.

NEXT WEEK

Saturday 18.07.2015 racing continues at the Surfers Paradise racecourse. Spring Carnival packages are available at the GCTC now.

Saturday Wrap-Up 04.07.2015

The Red Boot for Ronald McDonald House,SEQ race day was slightly down on previous meetings which is typical for this time of the year however a large attendance for Ronald Mcdonald nearly filled the new convention centre building.

Race(1) Innocent, the favourite, was slowly away and ran on well however it was too late to catch Sassy Tycoon which began brilliantly from the 900M start. There was money for the winner and also Hair of the Dog was well supported in this Class 4 event.

Race (2) The Morrisey trained Delvaux was well backed and there was strong support for Mia Madalena which began well and duely saluted the judge. So we had a two years old filly trouncing older horses in a strong performance.

Race (3) In the Class 2 1400M Handicap the bookmakers were hammered as Spanish Saga was heavily supported mostly to the exclusion of other runners and after $2.50 was offered early in betting $1.70 was scarcely available at post time.

Race (4) The Westpac 2YO over 1100M was quite a good betting affair as Mishani Honcho (in from $5.50) from the Les Ross stable was well supported and French Concession (in from $17.00) was also popular with her connections. Positive Charge held her place at the top of the market and eventually saluted the judge when Mishani Honcho got too far back.

Race (5) I Like Candy was another well supported winner on the day and after having a perfect run in transit this 3YO filly won well. The top price of $9.00 was given early in betting and $5.00 was taken late in betting.

Race (6) The 2200M Class 2 saw most money for Iniquity and the eventual winner Tampere drifted in betting however it was a nice win in the end. Whitely gave the favourite Iniquity every chance.

Race (7) There was strong betting in this competitive affair and the southern visitor Nothing Like Luca drifted in the market however he was most impressive on the line.Money came for Cornrow, Hydrazine, and Signpost, however there was also specking for others.

Race (8) The main support came for Alpintoro, Lost thief, Chophouse Tears, Pompeii Flyer and Te Rux. The latter duely saluted down the outside and after $8.00 was given early, $6.50 was unavailable at the jump.

NEXT WEEK

Racing continues in Surfers Paradise...    Spring Carnival Packages are now available from the GCTC .

Saturday Wrap-Up 27.06.2015

Tradies' day provided comfortable conditions and a competitive local race meeting and as a general rule there was sprited betting throughout the day.

Race (1)  Maiden ....  Second favourite Cheering saluted the judge running home over the top of the well supported favourite Fell From Heaven which ran to the front in the early stages from an outside alley and eventually fading in the straight.

Race (2) The F&M Class 2 was a competitive affair with support for Bergdorf, Spirit Torque,Amata,Chophouse Tears, White Turf and the winner Scarlet Jane.

Race (3)  Maiden .... The well supported I Doubt I Can was most impressive from an outside draw at the barrier.

RACE (4) The Colts,Geldings and Entires Class (2) was a very good betting race with Jetasan eventually starting favourite however he couldn't handle the pace and Dancing Warrior ran on very well to take the money.

Race (5) The 1800 M ratings 0-70 Handicap for prospective middle distance horses went the way of the 5YO favourite Walhaan chalk up his third win from sixteen starts but it will be tougher next time.

Race (6) These Class (5) events are always competitive affairs and this race was no exception and the Beaudesert trained Tuned In saluted after having a nice run from the inside barrier.  Hora Sexta ran on nicely when having his first start from a let up. Away from the favourite Rainbow Magic which raced well there was also support for Eye Winsome however he didn't show up.

Race (7) The last was a little disappointing as most backing came for one horse which was the eventual winner Star Wars and this forced Falzini to drift in the market.

NEXT WEEK

Red Boot Race Day for Ronald McDonald House,SEQ.

Saturday Wrap-Up 20.06.2015

The weather was kind and even though the Titans game against the Warriors was in competition later in the day the race meeting provided a very intersting day out for the patrons and the meeting was well supported. There was spirited betting throughout the day and most interest was focused on the main meeting being the Tatt's Club Tiara meeting at our local Gold Coast track. Interstate meetings produced the usual winter track conditions. The Gold Coast track was rated in the slow range however it became evident that on pace runners were slightly advantaged . There was plenty of value in the prices for punters and most winners were well found in the betting. The quality handicap produced the NZ visitor Addictive Habit saluting the judge and the 5YO gelding was solidly supported throughout betting.  Others fancied in the market were The Offer at $7 and Lucky Largo around the $4.20 mark. The Carlton Draught Tatt's Cup was a sprited betting affair with Epingle being sent out the most fancied however there was also interest in Faust, Shoreham, Biana Mo, and Major Major along with the other roughie Bachelor Zeel. At the winning post Escado hung on with Epingle appearing slightly unlucky. As reported previously Srikandi would always be the one to beat in the Tatt's Tiara and she performed to her ability and being an on paced runner she proved the testing material for two other fancied runners in the market Avoid Lightning and Lumosty although Catkins had continual support throughout betting.  The day concluded with the two highly fancied runners Dothraki and Target In Sight fighting out the finish which according to some punters was equivalent to scoring one under par on the 18th.

NEXT SATURDAY

TRADIES' DAY  27.06.2015

Saturday Wrap-Up 06.06.2015 & 13.06.2015

AND LOOKING AHEAD

Weather conditions for this coming Thursday and Friday look clear and race day Saturday looks very comfortable at approximately 22 or 23 degrees with only scattered cloud forecast by the weather bureau.

So the (lost) betting only meetings are now over and done and Gold Coast thoroughbred racing fans have their sites set on the monster Tattersall's Club Tiara race meeting this coming Saturday (20.06.2015) and the annual Tradies Day the following Saturday (27.06.2015).  It's slightly early ( being Monday prior ) trying to sort out the Fillies and Mares WFA feature however Srikandi looks very well suited under the weight scale ... so if she draws well and track conditions suit she will be the one to beat - notwithstanding that fact the race is chock - a - block full of fillies and mares nominated for the race. They have plenty of ability and well disclosed form. There is also plenty of intrigue attached to the race as Nazoom has been nominated however the question arises - will she get a run as she will be allocated a light weight being a 3YO filly ? There will be 16 to face the starter and 24 nominations have been received. Peggy Jean and Lumosty are the other 3YO fillies nominated so interesting days ahead. Just to mention a few - others nominated include Hazard, Dublin Lass, Real Surreal and Catkins. Wow what a race !  The main supporting race being the Carlton Draught Tattersall's Cup Handicap over 2400 M looks a competitive race on paper with last start winners Danchai and Jetset Lad among the nominations.

NEXT WEEK

Tradies' Day

Saturday Wrap-Up 30.05.2015

On Saturday (May 30) the main spotlight fell on the Brisbane race meeting at Doomben and the running of the Queensland Oaks over 2200M for 3YO fillies. The pronounced early favourite Winks ran up to her previous good form and won easily after being solidly suported in betting.

The Gold Coast meeting attracted a good local crowd however small fields were the order of the day and most winners were highly fancied in betting.

NEXT WEEK

As previously reported we have two betting only meetings ahead being Saturday 06.06.2015 and Saturday 13.06.2015 so the track has had a good chance to recover as we look forward to the Tattersall's Club Tiara Race Day on Saturday June 20 which will be the major Saturday meeting in Queensland for the day.

Saturday Wrap-Up 23.05.2015

The main focus continues to be concentrated on the Winter Carnival and Brisbane took the spotlight last Saturday (23.05). New South Wales horses dominated the program and the most impressive runs on the day came by way of Najoom and Bohemian Lily. Although the main betting activity was in Brisbane, well supported winners at the Gold Coast included Media Maid , Charge Account and Kalandula.

NEXT WEEK

The Oaks Day (30.05) at Doomben this year over 2200M sees a most competitive event on paper. Winx is trying to go one better following her second placing in the ATC Oaks and Bohemian Lily will be trying to lead the entire trip. There are other up and coming fillies competing including Sebrina, Ballet Suite, Ungrateful Ellen and Zarzali.

PS Bohemian Lily has now been withdrawn, Winx becomes a pronounced favourite.

Don't forget the Gold Coast meeting (30.05), betting only meetings on June 6 & June 13 and upcoming features the TattsTiara (20.06) and Tradies Day on June 27.

Saturday Wrap-Up 16.05.2015

Saturday May16 saw a marathon nine event meeting at the Gold Coast and some longer priced winners saluted the judge which resulted from competitive racing. The larger fields attracted a good crowd at the Gold Coast and some visitors were in attendance from Brisbane. The Sunshine Coast meeting produced Winx winning most impressively and she will now line up as a pronounced favourite in the upcoming staying event for fillies the Queensland Oaks. In South Australia the Darley Goodwood produced well fancied runners Hucklebuck, Lucky Hussler, Black Heart Bart and Under The Louvre, however Flamberge provided an upset although not completely unexpected. Vlad Duric gave the gelding a great ride from a wide barrier. Lord Of The Sky also ran well. At Scone Artlee was well supported and won accordingly. The Snowden trained Flippant was most impressive in race one.

NEXT WEEK

The Queensland Winter Carnival rolls on and the supporting Gold Coast meeting this coming Saturday is the Westfield Community Raceday followed by the Coca - Cola Raceday at the Gold Coast on May 30. The major meetings to be held at the Gold Coast in June are the TattsTiara and Tradies Day meetings on June 20 and June 27 respectively. June 6 and 13 are betting only meetings and will be well patronised given the important meetings in Brisbane.

Saturday Wrap-Up 09.05.2015

Saturday May 9, saw many well backed winners salute the judge at the local Gold Coast meetiing and consequently local bookmakers were hammered into submission at the end of the day. The Doomben Cup (Brisbane) along with the Darley BRC Sprint and BTC Cup created a lot of interest amongst local patrons as the Brisbane Winter Carnival rolls ahead.

NEXT WEEK

A rest day in Brisbane with the major meeting in Queensalnd heading for the Sunshine Coast and Scone in NSW.

Saturday Wrap-Up 02.05.2015

Saturday (02.05) was unfortunately a bit flat given the late post-pone-ment of the Hawkesbury meeting and the scheduled local "betting only" meeting. Still, for those in attendance the main Queensland meeting held in Toowoomba and the Caulfield meeting in Victoria provided interesting racing and good betting affairs.

NEXT WEEK

The weather has cleared and the Doomben Cup meeting in Brisbane along with the large program on the local track on Saturday (09.05) shoud see good patronage at the Gold Coast. Recent "eye catchers" at the God Coast in Foreteller, Traveston Girl, Blueberry Hill and Madotti along with the MM winner Le Chef and recent GC winners Srikandi,Leebaz and Big Tree create interest - the winter carnival is in full swing. Most eyes will be trained on Our Boy Malachai ( he'slooking for his seventh straight win ) in the BTC Cup in what apears to be a very competitive event.

Saturday Wrap-Up 25.04.2015

Last Saturday Anzac Day saw the running of the 2015 Weight for Age Hollindale Stakes, the Weight for Age Victory Stakes and the Prime Minister's Cup. The Hollindale Stakes was a keen betting affair with Sir Moments, I'm Imposing, Silent Achiever, Arabian Gold, Hooked and Leebaz attracting most interest. In the end the punters "got it right" when Leebaz and Sir Moments fought out the finish. Silent Achiever pulled up a little distressed however I'm Imposing ran on strongly. Pornichet was unlucky to miss the run however he will now go to the Toowoomba Cup where he should start a strong favourite. The Victory Stakes saw last year's Stradbroke placegetter Srikandi being pertfectly ridden from the inside barrier and after having a nice run on the speed she was too strong at the finish. She started a well supported favourite after shortening in from $4. The PM Cup was a competitive affair and Ninth Legion appeared unlucky being trapped wide with his 60.5 kg impost. The final event on the program saw Traveston Girl easing in the market when the money came for Time for War and the winner Nostradamus. Better Not Blue has a hoof on the till.

NEXT WEEK

Next week (02.05.2015) sees the focus turn to Toowoomba and Hawkesbury and the Gold Coast Turf Club will be conducting a betting only meeting on this occasion.

Saturday Wrap-Up 18.04.2015

Saturday 18th April was pretty much a quiet day at the Gold Coast Turf Club as the scheduled phantom / betting meeting was the order of the day . The track received a well earned rest leading in to the PM Cup / Hollindale Stakes meeting.

NEXT WEEK

The PM Cup / Hollindale Stakes meeting has brought together horses from all over including NZ, intersate and local with approximately $1.5M prizemoney on offer . All of the races on the nine event card are very competitive events and with the rail in the true position and given even luck in running  most horses will get their chance. In the 1200M Smeg Victory Stakes we have the first three accross the line in last year's Stradbroke handicap lining up against each other once again plus other visitors from Victoria and New South wales. Throw in the local hopes and we have a great race on our hands. In the Hollindale Stakes Silent Achiever has made the trip from New Zealand so she must be in good form for this race. The locals will be chearing for the local hope Rudy who raced well in this year's Doncaster handicap when he finished fourth.

On Wednesday 29th April we have a mid-week meeting scheduled at the Gold Coast track.

Saturday Wrap-Up 11.04.2015

Although we had a whopping eleven event program at the Gold Coast the spotlight firmly shone on the Randwick meeting in Sydney, heavy track and all.  The weight for age Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the Autumn in Sydney soon may rival the WFA Cox Plate in the Melbourne Spring. The 3200M Sydney Cup has also been injected with a new lease on life.    Accordingly with the eleven event local program and the wonderful southern meeting the Gold Coast course was well patronised.   Brigadoon Legend saluted the judge in the class 4 and pumbled the bookmakers once again. He may go on and win in even better company now.   Most winners had support in the betting ring and local bookmakers displayed very competitive prices throughout the day.

NEXT WEEK

Saturday 18.04.2015 sees a betting only meeting at the Gold Coast as the following Saturday we see the running of the 2015 Prime Minister's Cup meeting which has historically been one of the major race days held on the Gold Coast as it leads in to the Queensland Winter Carnival.

We look forward to seeing patrons attend our betting meeting this Saturday as there will be opportunities to follow the betting movements from Brisbane and interstate and locals will be anxious to find out if Our Boy Malachi can continue his winning streak.

There is also a mid-week race meeting coming soon at the Gold Coast scheduled for Wednesday 29.04.2014

Saturday Wrap-Up 04.04.2015

The track stewards decided the race meeting should proceed  following a very wet week and although there were a number of scratchings owing to the heavy track the meeting was well patronised being the family day Easter Saturday.  Unfortunately the Randwick meeting was post-poned until Easter Monday due to very wet weather in Sydney so what promised to be a popular betting meeting at the Gold Coast Turf Club lost the gloss a little.

NEXT WEEK (11.04.2015)

The weather has settled and there are eleven (11) races on the card at the Gold Coast which coincides with the monster meeting in Sydney ... the 3200M Sydney Cup and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes of 2000M being the main events on the card with a fantastic supporting program. Hartnell is the ready made favourite for the Sydney Cup and at the weights looks the winner however he does have a jockey change this time. The Queen Elizabeth looks a very competitive race with the interesting aspect of the race being whether Contributor can overcome his wide barrier and can the Japanese horses improve ? Criterion looks suited .

PS Contributor is a scratching so it now appears To The World and Criterion will fight it out for favouritism.

Don't forget the PM Cup GCTC 25.04.2015.

Saturday Wrap-Up 28.03.2015

Punters enjoyed a marathon ten event program on Saturday at the Gold Coast Turf Club and although most winners were supported in the betting there was value accross the board owing to the competitive racing and large fields. The main meeting of the day from Rosehill in Sydney created huge interest among the patrons and punters finished well by strongly supporting the firm favourite Pornichet in the last.

NEXT WEEK

This coming Saturday (Easter Sat) is always well patronised and large nominations have been received for the meeting. The Sydney autumn carnival rolls on and the meeting at  headquarters (Randwick) promises to be a wonderful meeting with the running of the Doncaster (1600M) handicap and a fantastic supporting program.

Dont forget  PM Cup day GCTC Saturday 25th April, 2015.

Saturday Wrap-Up 21.03.2015

Saturday 21.03.2015 (Golden Slipper Day) was a high interest day for the patrons who weathered the storm which unfortunately played havoc with the local Gold Coast meeting and the Doomben meeting in Brisbane. Stewards called off the local meeting following race one which was run in pouring rain and the Doomben meeting was called off later in the day (3pm) when the storm wreaked havoc on Brisbane.  So the highlight of the day was the very smart two year old Vancouver  who, as reported last week held his place at the top of the market in the Slipper and saluted the judge accordingly.

NEXT WEEK

We are looking forward to settled weather on the Gold Coast which should see competitive fields following our lost meeting last week however the spotlight continues to shine on Sydney as the autumn carnival winds up once again. Saturday sees the running of the WFA BMW ($1.5M) and the set weights Vinery ($900K) for 3yo Fillies and a wonderful supporting program.

Saturday Wrap-Up 14.03.2015

On Saturday March 14th, the Gold Coast Turf Club hosted the main meeting of the day with the $100,000 Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) being the feature race of the afternoon. Architect was very well supported and ran a solid favourite at the jump while second favourite Sir Moments was easy in the market after opening favourite in some markets earlier in the weeks.

On pace runners featured prominently in most races during the meeting and the main race was no exception with Rocket To Glory clinging  on to the lead at the winning post. Punters had the better of the day and most winners were well supported although bookmakers had some relief with Platinum State and Rocket to Glory saluting the judge.

Other winners Upstart Pride (R8), Siegfried (R6), Wobbly Boots (R4), Secret Trail (R3), Eight's A Party (R2), and Perplexity (R1)were all solidly supported. Vodnik was an easing favourite in race one.

There was plenty of interest in the southern meetings and Gold Coast trained Rudy was well supported in the ninth at Rosehill however he had no luck in a very competitive race.

NEXT WEEK

Next Saturday, 21 March sees the spotlight of Australian racing shining on Sydney with the running of the feature 2yo (1200m) Golden Slipper. This meeting is usually well patronised at the Gold Coast Turf Club.  The Waterhouse trained Vancouver is tight favourite ($2.80) for the race prior to the barrier draw however, he should hold his position at the top of the market no matter where he is positioned at the barrier.
